This paper deals with organotin compounds (OTC) persistence in soil. The speciation of tributyltin (TBT), triphenyltin (TPhT) and their degradation compounds was achieved in an agricultural soil. This soil was contaminated by the way of spiked sewage sludge. The influence of organotin concentrations on their persistence and degradation rate was also studied. Monitoring of OTC was carried out as a function of time. Moreover, half-life times were evaluated for the trisusbstituted compounds.

PdCl(C3H5)(dppb) in the presence of Cs2CO3 as base efficiently catalyses the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of primary alkylboronic acids with a variety of alkenyl halides. Both - and -substituted alkenyl halides were employed successfully.

Germylation of olefins (and dienes) with vinylgermanes and that with hydrogermanes catalyzed by [RuHCl(CO)(PCy3)2] can be used as a complement to the synthesis of substituted vinylgermanes. However, the synthesis of germylsilylethenes can proceed exclusively via germylation of vinylsilanes with vinylgermanes.

Application of the anionic homologous Fries-rearrangement to the synthesis of 3-alkylbenzofuran-2(3H)-ones (p 523-528)

2-(2-tert-Butyldimethylsilyloxyaryl) acetamides, easily prepared via an anionic homologous Fries-rearrangement of the corresponding 2-methylaryl esters of N,N-diethylcarbamic acid, were selectively metalated and monoalkylated at the benzylic position, thus disclosing a new approach to the synthesis of 3-alkylbenzofuran-2(3H)-ones.

At room temperature and under solvent-free conditions, various types of alcohols and phenols were efficiently protected within a few minutes by using hexamethyldisilazane and magnetically recoverable Fe3O4. Preferential protection of primary alcohols was observed when they competed with secondary or tertiary alcohols. Highly selective protection of phenols in the presence of aromatic amines or thiophenol was also observed.
